Oprah says "Be a voice for the voiceless". I wonder if she got that thought from this proverb. While doing research on the net for a needs assessment in order to justify a Women's Resource Center, I was struck by so many people all over our nation being a voice for the voiceless. I personally do not think in Charlotte there needs to be an assessment. Not when 50% of all children in the public schools receive subsidized meals. Not when there are over 3000 known children that are homeless. Not when meals on wheels have identified more than 3500 people who qualify for meals but there is no one to deliver them or prepare them. They have a staff that takes care of less than 10% of the need. I read about culture and the arts. First we have to take care of people before we take care of our cultural pursuits. As James says "Be doers of the Word".

Proverbs 31:8-9 (New Living Translation)

8 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed and are defenseless. 9 Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.
