Cherokee's Green Dream Home
We take a tour of Cherokee Investment's Mainstream GreenHome to see how sustainable construction can turn an ordinary home into an eco-pioneer
It's hard to see anything noteworthy about the red brick farmhouse-style McMansion in a cul-de-sac in one of Raleigh (N.C.)'s dozens of subdivisions. The spacious, $500,000, five-bedroom house blends in easily with its neighbors. But it also boasts a significant sustainability factor. Dubbed the "Mainstream GreenHome" by its financial backers, Cherokee Investment Partners, the home requires 96% less energy to heat hot water than a similar size dwelling—and is predicted to save 80,000 gallons of water per year. Take a virtual tour here at the above link.
